Plate and Steel Can Recycling
|
Tin
cans, or more accurately tin-plated steel cans, have
developed a sizable collection and recycling infrastructure in
North America. Initially, tin can scrap was sent to "detinners"
who would strip the valuable tin coating from the steel can
scrap and send the detinned scrap into a steel mill. With a
drop in tin prices and a declining percentage of tin in the
mix, detinning has fallen out of favor. The lowering of the
tin percentage in scrap cans has also allowed the steel mills
to use this metal directly, without it first being detinned.
We currently purchase post consumer and new
tin can bales or bundles in North America. The cans should be
compacted into a tight enough bale that they can be unloaded
with a magnet crane without falling apart. Pricing has swung
from $0 to upwards of $150 per long ton FOB over the
past few years. So, please send us an
e-mail and we will gladly provide a current
price. We can arrange freight from your location for
full trailer loads of material.
We do not purchase tin from individual or
retail at our New Jersey location.
Tin can bales are not an export item due to
their low value relative to freight.
